dust collections problem

running a 7.5 horse dust collector
connected to shark by 8 ft 2.5 hose
vacuum is sucking boot bristles up into the collection hole instead of the dust
suggestions please

Andy:

Three words: adjustable blast gate.
Or a "vent" farther up the hose that lets in air so it doesn't all get sucked through the dust boot.

Remember that the suction can also sometimes pull the spindle head downward, changing the cut depth and cutter alignment vertically.

In addition to what Rando suggested, you could also have a 4" hose and dust boot.
You will still need blast gate as well.

thanks guys
always thought you needed all the suction power you could get
i'll reduce air flow and see what happens
But
what would be the benefit besides the hose size, to use a 2.5 or a 4 in hose

Aroff:

It's all about balancing the forces: sucking the material up, versus sucking-in things you don't want (the bristles, the workpiece, etc.).

So, if the 2.5" gives you an airflow that does the trick, then do that.

As with many things, the best choice is the one that works best, and can't really be determined empirically without a bunch of math we are ALL to lazy to want to do :ugeek:

So, if the 2.5" gives you an airflow that does the trick, then do that. That's why the adjustable blast gate is often a good inclusion, regardless of which hose size you go with. That way you can adjust it to the work you're going.

I know this is an old post but I was having problems with the stiff brushes causing unevenness in my job. It was pushing the router up. I contacted Next Wave and they sent me softer bristle brush. I started having problems with the bristles getting sucked in. I took the stiffer bristles and routed another Chanel just inside the original brush Channel and placed the stiff bristles inside of the soft bristles on the end around the suction. Works great.
