Wooden Hinge

Post by Bob »

Vectric published a project designed by Michael Tyler, Wooden Hinged Photo Frames:

http://www.vectric.com/WebSite/Vectric/ ... oto+Frames

The article featured a really simple way to make a wooden hinged frame for displaying pictures. I adapted this technique in order to design a conventional hinge using the Shark.
This is a great way to make wooden hinges of nearly any size. The design could even become an integrated part of a project instead of adding it on later(for example, a folding game board, or a lid for a box.). After it's glued together, you could also use the cnc to cut custom profiles out of the hinge.
You could keep adding segments to form a continuous hinge. Assembly is accomplished by inserting dowels into the indexing holes, adding a little glue, and clamping with rubber bands.
The attached pictures show my prototype and some of the hinge segments. There are only two different parts needed to make these hinges.

Bob,

Very creative. I made the hinged wooden frame from Vectric for some special pictures I recieved from Operation New Dawn.

I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.

Buc,
It looks like a nice project to make. The basic idea is wide open to more possibilities.

Bob.......I don't know if you're still active in this forum, but this is a really great idea! I'm still kind of weak on design, and am wonderting if you would sell the Vcarve file for these hinges. Thanks. JIm
