Re: My turn to try a litho...

A quick question. Do LED lights put out enough heat that I need to worry about airflow or any type of insulation inside of the box. Doesn't make for a great gift if it burns the house down. The lights I used were thin self adhering strip approximately 18 inches long.

A couple of my favorite latest carves!

Here are a couple of carvings completed and sold. The first is on a walnut crosscut slab. The second is carved in walnut with a mahogany frame and parquetry background. Must admit I cheated by using the CNC to cut out the pieces for the parquetry! Hey, if you have the tools to speed things up....use...

Re: My turn to try a litho...

Update on the correction of the first litho. So I took the advise of lowering the Z0 and tightened the step to 10%. I re-ran the carve over the previous carve (after careful realignment of the x0 and y0) at this setting and it cleaned it up beautifully. It does appear that the rough carve ran lower ...

Re: Using the touch probe for a molding

For the probe scan, I used only a single segment on each of the originals. Using Aspire, I created a 3D model and used the sculpting tool to deepen some of the smaller grooves that the probe couldn't detail quite sufficiently enough. There was a learning curve to this segment of the project, so it t...

Using the touch probe for a molding

I was asked by someone if I could make a piece of bed molding to replace some torn up sections. I negotiated a deal...he pay for the cost of the touch probe and I'll make the molding. That's smart business:). So anyway, here are the results. He was very happy with them! The stained pieces are the or...

Re: My turn to try a litho...

I used 12%. Do u think my z axis may have been a fraction too high so that the lines are remnant of the rough carve? Not sure why it would just be present in that one section. While I'm at it ill show you my second as well :D

My turn to try a litho...

I just finished the carve on my first lithophane. I followed tonydude's step by step instructions and it worked very well....thank you. One question regarding the final product...am I safe to sand the "sky" region to eliminate the visible router lines? I don't want to assume and end up ruining the p...
