Re: Apple and Oranges?
I faced the same decision a while back. Given the price of lasers, you must be looking at the zing. If you were just doing engraving or small piece cutting, then I think the laser would be the better choice. If you want to do carving (e.g. signs, 3D decorative carving) or large part fabrication, the...

Re: Need help deciding on the CNC Shark
The shark is capable if the desk components can fit in it's work envelope. You will need to upgrade to Aspire (or equivalent) for 3D modelling and carving. Aspire provides the tools to create models from pictures. Neither CNC machines (shark or any other) nor Aspire are "push the button and magic au...

Re: Tool definition in Aspire and VCarve
The NWA bits look like the Precisebits tooling. You can get a lot of information from the Precisebits website.

Re: Price boost on basic Shark
Rockler had been offering the basic Shark at a discount, which put the price at $2399. Not only is the discount gone, the basic price has now catapulted to $2899. What happened to cause such an enormous price jack? Did plastic prices get out of control? Romaxx offers a basic machine with virtually ...

Re: 4th axis preview date
Hi Dash - If you are serious about learning to turn wood, consider checking to see if there is an AAW (american association of woodturners) club local to you. The following link will take you to the AAW website where you can check and see how far a club is from you. http://www.woodturner.org/communi...

Re: 4th axis preview date
Hi basecircle - There are a couple issues that would need to be addressed for your idea to work: 1) The gearing on your setup using a rotary table would likely be very different than what NWA ultimately releases. This would mean you (and everybody else that rolled their own) would need to have acces...

Re: 4th axis preview date
Hi Dash - I can't provide any answers (I don't know) about the cost of the other components that would be required from Nextwave to integrate the lathe into the Shark as a 4th axis. However, for table legs, I think you could probably make do initially with the spur drive and live center that comes w...

Re: 4th axis preview date
Hi Dash - What are you interested in making with a rotary axis? The answer to that question will determine what additional items you might want to consider buying.

Re: Control Panel Version 1.5.0.22
Did you right click the link and choose "Save Link As"? I just did it again and it worked (depending on your operating system you might have to pick Save Target As instead of Link). The file I just downloaded a minute ago is the same as the file I downloaded the other day. It only has two lines of t...

Re: Control Panel Version 1.5.0.22
Doug - I just checked and I could get the ini file. You might try again. You only need the ini file if you are going to try and run the shark directly from the vectric software. If you create toolpaths on a different machine than the one you have connected to the shark, you don't need the ini file. ...
