Learning the hard way.

This is more of a reminder to the CNC Shark users to not only keep their machines clean but to check all joints for tightness. Recently, I started a project of making 350 5 pointed stars for a Christmas project for my local church. I started noticing that some of the stars were not just quite right....

Re: New Router mount for Z Axis

gmagge, Please, for clarification, does your Dixiebillet clamp actually clamp or is it bolted to the new Z axis router mount? Also, on my shark, I had to shim my Dixiebillet clamp just a little to get the router perpendicular to the table top because there was not adjustment in the Shark. Does the n...

Re: Leveling the router

It depends on your mount and router or spindle.

For me, I used some thin dense cardboard and some masking tape to shim my router.

It doesn't take much at the router to make a bid difference.

I knew I saw something on this somewhere. Looking around, I found exactly what you need on this Youtube video.

It worked great for me.

Good luck.

Re: Leveling the router

VBWoodworker, Adjusting the router so the bit is true with the carving surface is unique to each machine. I have an older shark and I had to place paper in the router mount till I got it good enough. To get good enough, may I suggest using the largest bit or making an alignment tool. Search the foru...

Re: Wood clock plans suggestions

Just a note here about Brian Law's clocks. Yesterday, I downloaded one of the 4 FREE clock PDFs to try out his designs. I had a question about the sleeves and shafts in his design so I emailed him. Even though there is a 6 hour time zone difference from Texas to the UK, he responded within 3 hours t...

Re: Engraving with the 7 watt laser

Moneypit, A few years back I did some engraving on a 1911 Cole 45 for a friend. I ordered some 60 degree Dremell steel V router bits and programmed Vcarve to go real slow. As the cuts were being made, I hand dropped cutting oil in the area of the cut. It came out real nice (I did several test on sim...

Re: New Router mount for Z Axis

Gmagge,

Would you post a picture or two of your new mount set up? I would be very interested.
