Aspire 4 Draw Polygon Line Problem

Post by WoodEraser »

I've drawn on separate layer alot of lines using draw polygon tool and when I goto create toolpath I get message ignoring open vectors.

For the life of me I can't figure out how to close them.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Thanks Tony,
I tried that with no luck.
I was trying to use vcarve tool which was wrong as it requires a closed vector to cut.
I used profile tool with v bit on it programed OK.

Using VCarve Desktop ver 8.024 - have a number of designs with lines which don't join anything, therefore considered open vectors.
SelectedVectors.JPG
The software won't calculate a Profile toolpath to cut them, I get this error message:
VCarveVectorError.JPG
There appears to be a clickable option
VectorSelector.JPG
to tell the calculate to use open vectors - why won't it include them? Thx!

From what I see:

3 objects
object 1: Blue line is a complete vector
object 2: upper purple line - incomplete vector
object 3: lower purple line - incomplete vector

The two open vectors are the two purple lines that run across the item. These two lines either need to attach to the blue lined item or to each other thereby completing a vector.

You can use the tools that Tony has shown to close the selected vectors.

Hope this helps!!! Have A GREAT DAY!!!

What you're calling an incomplete vector are the lines the program calls open vectors, and it won't use them. Just did some fiddling around drew a two point line, did a "select all open vectors", and it selected it. So, did a right-click and "close vector, move end points" and the program does a close, seems a bit strange, but as long as it'll let me cut a toolpath I guess I don't care how it becomes acceptable. . . .

Still wonder why the program appears to allow you to use unclosed vectors if it won't really . . .

Oh but it does!!!

A perfect example of using a single line (open vector) would be for let us say 1/4 inch grooves cut into a panel.
z1.jpg
Note the Attachment above: I have laid out on a .75" thick 6" x 6" with four 1/4" grooves to be cut 1/8" deep into it across the width except one is to be cut shorter than the other three.

My tool path is created using the purple lines (open vectors) for the tool to follow to cut a 1/4" groove 1/8" deep. The 1/4" by 6" plus rectangle is pretty much there just for show it really serves no other purpose.

Hope that this helps explain the usability of some open vectors!!!

Have GREAT DAY!!!

What toolpath did you use? I've got an extremely complicated design that I need to do some single line marking in - almost all of it is cut with a V-Carve toolpath, but when I try to set up a new project with one single line in it, I get the same error message "1 Open Vector bring ignored" - however it does work with a fluting toolpath, monkeying with the settings for bit, etc. Do not want to do a bit change on this, my run time is already too long! Thanks!

Sorry Forgot to mention Tool path used:

I used a Profile Tool path for the Grooves with a 1/4" Mortising 2-flute spiral up cut bit.
