HELP!!! Extracting Shapes in VCarve

I scanned a piece.... and when its done it opens with Cut3D.... so I imported to VCarve Pro 6.0 to see if I could extract the shape of the piece....because as we know when we scan, it goes side to side making a square with the piece inside.... but now when I want the machine to start routing the piece it also makes the square too as shown in the the Picture in the Preview mode (blue color)...
so is there a way I can extract the shape of the piece from the square??? Thank you so much!!!

Not sure what options are available in VCarve but in Aspire you would:
1. Import bitmap
2. Trace bitmap (under edit)
3. Select a color to create vectors from.
4. Use new vector to cut out the shape.

Not sure Aspire and VCarve files are compatible but attached is the vector of your image using the method above.

P.S. Wow, crv3d files not allowed but zip ok?

Here import this. It's in DXF, you should be able to import it in VCarve. Don't know why I didn't think of that sooner.

Edit:

You should be able to do something similar in VCarve. Just not sure where the options are.

That procedure is identical in V-Carve, all should be good.

Er,

With Asipire you can select your image scan the create an outside boundary around the image and only machine the image by selecting the image and the vector you created around the outside edge. I don't believe you can edit with cut 3D.

I did the file attachment with AspireV3.09. Is this what you are trying to do with the pineapple?

That is verifiably correct. I am in the same situation. Only have Cut3d and VCarve. You can not edit a file in Cut3d and VCarve does not have 3d modeling capability.

enriquewoodcarver, with the file you can change the size of the carve in Cut3d but that is all. Aspire or other 3d modeling software will allow editing of the scan. Inkscape and Sketchup are two free 3d modeling software available but not as easy as Aspire. Also, you download the trial version of Aspire and work with your scan but you won't be able to save it (restriction of the trial version).

This is how it looks in the preview and I want to prevent the time from doing the square...
I also have the original piece I carved....

so I can to the editing in VCarve Pro or in Aspre???

Er,

I reccomend Aspire. You can do so much more as far as editting and fine tuning your .STL file. Here is a comparison chart of Vectric software. http://www.vectric.com/WebSite/Vectric/ ... rision.htm
