I am just learning the VCarve Pro software and would like to make a test carving exactly like the one pictured in the web banner above on the CNC Shark machine. It looks like grapes carved into a dish or a recessed circle. I have tried over and over again using Vcarve with no success. I down loaded the demo Aspire and tried it but 1. you cannot save the tool path because it is a demo copy. 2. when I try to get that nice smooth dish look it looks more like a pocket in Aspire than a dish when I preview it. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance

Here is the grapes http://www.vectorart3d.com/store/index. ... l&ID=50060 you have to buy it.
You need http://www.vectorart3d.com/store/index. ... l&ID=50060 and then you can put it in vcarve pro.
read all that you need to know from http://www.vectorart3d.com/
Hope this helps.

Re: What am I doing wrong?
Thanks for the response Tony. Are you saying that this could not be created in VCarve? Could it be created using Aspire? I cannot seem to make that really smooth Dish (just the Dish) using Aspire (Demo). My Dish looks more like a pocket cut.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Re: What am I doing wrong?
Read this article and view the videos http://www.vectorart3d.com/machinist_free/ It explains what you need to do. Also it has free samples to try. Then you can import the 3d model into aspire or vcarve pro. Also check out these videos. http://www.vectorart3d.com/index.cfm/cu ... foreYouBuy

Re: What am I doing wrong?
I looked at all the suggested video's and went back into Aspire, VCarve, Vector Art 3d Machinist but I was not able to actually Create my own Dish with grapes or just a Dish for that matter in Aspire, VCarve, Vector Art 3d Machinist. All I was able to do was bore a hole in the 3d model and not a Dish using Aspire. Nothing can be created in Vector Art 3d Machinist just manipulate samples. I guess now what I am asking is how do I create my very Own Dish with grapes? Using which of the above softwares? Why does my 3d model of a shallow dish just go around the side of the dish leaving material inside untouch? What am I missing? Sorry for the bother but I am on a quest to Master this software.
Thanks again
Thanks again
Re: What am I doing wrong?
Maybe you should put your question to the vectric forum where there will be better answers http://www.vectric.com/forum/
They are a great bunch of people that will be better knowledgeable on the aspire forum.

I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.

You guys are FANTASTIC! I posted this in the Vectric forum and this is what I got and is just the answer I was looking for.
There are a couple of ways to make a dish shape in Aspire, either with the Create Shape tool or 2 rail sweep. For this, I think the Create Shape tool is fastest.
Create a circle the diameter you want the dish to be.
Select the circle and open the Create Shape tool. Select the Dish shape at the top of the form and about half way down, select the option to Scale to Exact Height. Here I had material 0.75" thick, so chose 0.6" for the height.
Give the component a name and select Subtract for the Combine Mode. Then click Apply. (Note, you could have also specified a negative angle at the top and used Add for the Combine Mode - just a matter of preference).
The results are a dish which you can then import 3D models and Add to the surface of the dish.
These are very simple steps and there are many variations to achieve certain effects. You would also need Aspire to cut this on your machine, there would be no way to import it into VCP.

BIG Thanks to all that helped me.
