Milling thin aluminum sheet >025 in.

Post by edokus »

Hello all.
I'm involved in a project that requires a variety of flat aluminum pieces to be subsequently bent to shape.

Since the Shark is advertised to engrave a variety of materials including metal, I 'd like to hear from anyone
who has cut thin aluminum sheet with it.
Thanks for any help or suggestions provided.

I would not recommend milling a thin sheet of aluminum such as you describe. Holding the material absolutely flat, while resisting the twisting and lifting forces by the router bit would be very difficult.

I'd suggest getting your parts cut with a waterjet or a laser instead. Either solution is fast and will have a nice, smooth kerf cut.

I would sandwich the aluminum between two pieces of plywood when cutting and small steps and it should cut OK.
