A Trivet

Post by Wolffie1 »

I got this idea from a woodworking magazine.
It was supposed to be turned but I changed it to CNC.
It is double sided, locating holes are drilled deep enough to go into spoil sheet, then 6.37mm (1/4") dowels csn be inserted after work has been removed and then replaced accurately.
Attach 4 small rubber feet to the bottom.
It is done in Aspire4, please contact me if you want a different format.

That's a good looking design, Wolffie! I'm also finding that many projects out there not originally done on a CNC can be "translated" with varying degrees of ease.

Since it appears to be simple 2D cutting, could you post a VCarve file? Thanks!

Thanks for uploading the crv file.
Best part it is in metric, no messy conversions needed.
What a great forum with all the help and ideas.

There's no messy conversions, just click on the inches button, and everything is automatically converted. I did have to supplement the 3mm bit she used. Not having anything better I simply used my .125 ball nose bit. That's pretty close to 3mm. I did however use my 1/4 inch bit for the locating holes, worked fine. Plus, it shows that you start at the bottom left corner, but actually you start in the center. I cut 3 of these yesterday, and came out great. I've already thanked Wolffie personally on my Facebook page since she's no longer a member here.

Wolffie advised me that she was going to reduce the size of this file, to make coasters. I was going to do that very same thing, but she beat me to it. Anyway, she advises she's going to post it on the Vetric site soon. Looking forward to it.

Pretty cool !! What type of finish would you put on this that will hold up to the heat?
