You don't have to use the aluminum top at all and just replace it with your own design spoil board.

I've heard of guys spending more time on their spoil boards than one any one project. Remember, it is a SPOIL board to be discarded sooner than later.

Again, don't spend more on the spoil board than any project (in my opinion).

BTW; I have a program that cuts my spoil board, so each time I have to replace it, I put in new MDF and cut a new spoil board.
