Shark HD3 Aluminum Base Track T-Nut size?

Post by ita47 »

I recently purchased a barely used Shark HD3. It has the aluminum T-Slot extruded base that is made of 14 pieces of 1" x 2" extrusions. I am making a 3/4" MDF spoil board and would like to bolt it down with some T-nuts, but I'm not sure what size to order. Is this considered the 10 series? If these are the correct size this is what I was planning on using.

These are what you want... https://www.nextwavecnc.com/shop/10-PK- ... p114869847

Then use nylon 1/4-20 bolts to fasten the spoil board down.

I was hoping to find something on Amazon so I don't have to pay shipping. Nylon bolts are safer for bits, but have a thicker head and are a bit pricey. I have used those thin flat head bolts on my cnc at work for many years with no issues.

After further checking the t-nuts I linked from Amazon won't ship until the end of January, I can't wait that long. I'm also not sure the series 10 t-nuts will work, I think they are too narrow.

After much searching I was not able to find any sliding T-nuts that would be the correct size for the tracks on my Shark. The series 10 stuff is too small and the series 15 I think would be too big. Shark must use an odd size track. Anyway I ended up having to order the siding T-nuts from Next Wave. 40 T-nuts cost $38.76 ouch! It was also suggested to use nylon bolts, I got to checking and I have several on hand from my RC airplanes. They are too long but easy to cut off so I will give those a try. I hope to have my spoil board down this weekend so I can surface it level. I will try to post a picture when I get it done.

I would like to add for posterity, that for hold-down in the t-track I buy the T-bolts at the local Ace Hardware for less than $4.00. They are the same 1/4" bolts used to hold your toilet to the flanges in the floor and include nuts, washers, and sometimes rubber washers too.
