controlling movement with a joystick

First is this possible?
I would like to use my Shark to route a design using a joystick to seamlessly move the router head to follow the design drawn on the board.
I've seen X-box controllers to control the XY&Z movements but not using a fluid motion.
Is there any kind of controller like this?
