DUST COLLECTION FOR SHARK PRO

Post by dbonds »

I really, really need a dust collection system. I have looked at several, but how would I incorporate it to the shark pro?

On the topic of dust.
Some build a cabinet around the unit, some build a shoe and a skirt on the Z axis, some just hang the vacuum hose to the z axis. All have their good points and bad points. You can search the topic here and see the several options with pics. To add to the solutions try this. Build a square 25x25x2.25 from scrape wood and place it on the shark table (do not attach it to the table, let it float). This skirt will hold 80-90% of the dust and cuttings on the table for easy clean up. You can take it off when need be and if you run to the gantry into it it will move out of the way. Simply and cheap and easy to do right now. Now, if you are cutting MDF there is no hope but an inclosure but for most stuff the skirt will work well and is easy to manage.

In addition to Gary's approach - which is a great idea - some good posts on table and dust control are

Hope this gives you some ideas - it will be interesting to hear what you decide to try and how it works.

I built one of the solutions mentioned above (the box/table with the integrated dust separator). After using it for several weeks I find it works quite well, but nowadays I don't let the exhaust fan run all the time. I just let the dust collect inside the box until the part is finished. Then I turn on the exhaust fan and stir up the dust piles inside with a compressed air nozzle through the vent holes. That move all the dust into the bin within 1-2 minutes. There is usually some residual dust clinging to the walls or the machine that may fall out when opening the box but it is not a big deal.

I am just setting up my collection system, i am using a large cardboard box with a viewing PC window. I will have it attached to the rafters with 2 pulleys and a snorkle attached to my DUST Deputy. It is attached to my dry vac through some 2 1/2 pvc pipe. I have collected three 5 gallon buckets of fine dust within 3 weeks and the suction is as strong as the first day INCREDIBLE!!! Get the Deputy it is worth the money, My only complaint is that i have to empty it all the the time. Oh yeah if you decide to go this way leave about 1/4" gap between the table and hood for proper flowrate and if your clever on long runs you can incorporate the suction air into cooling for your motors on those long 3hr carves.

Cheers
Andrew

Thanks for several good ideas. I'll try the floating "wall" first and then work on a brush shoe of sorts. ;)
