Hello everyone. My forum name is Chips, in the real world I'm Bill. A few years ago the wife and I relocated from the West Coast to wonderful Carriere, Mississippi, which is about an hours drive north of New Orleans. Talk about small town U.S.A. Anyway, after building two small CNC machines from plans bought off the Internet I decided to purchase the real deal. The Shark Pro Plus started out a little shaky with a bad controller. But, thanks to Tim that was taken care of and is now history. Chips away.

Ah, another "southerner"!
I'm Bobby and reside just outside of the city of Baton Rouge. I've always enjoyed working with wood - just wood didn't always feel mutual about me. My first CNC (Shark Pro Plus) is on its way. I have lots to turn so one of the 1st things that were in order was to join up fellow Shark members here. Seems there is a good mix of pro's and hobbiest here - a perfect assembly.

I look forward to getting the Shark going and taking in information and turning around giving some back!

Hi all,

Another Newbie. :) ;) Been busy looking for a "reasonable" solution for some of the projects on the drawing board. Quickly found that large table size equates with plenty more dollars and that another drawback of the smaller machines is the limitation of the Z-axis.
Looking at the brand new Shark Pro Plus sure made me go "AHA" .

So here I am ready to find out a bit more. Materials to be machined: wood, plastics - styrene, plexi and acrylic - and if possible aluminium.
I'll probably have a few "dumb" questions, but with 30 years of machine tool service background I'll try to keep them to a minimum. ;) :)
BTW the Pro Plus is intended as a complement to the Epilog Helix (24x18, 60W); that machine was a "little" surprise - long story for another time - that happened in mid July. And now we cut/engrave wood, styrene, styrofoam (don't ask! ), bristol board and acrylics.
Cheers

HJ

Another Newbie here. Looking at buying a Shark this weekend and begging for help from ya'll when I can't figure something out. From Swartz Creek, Michigan. That's north from those southern Michigan Detroit boys that posted earlier. Madison Heights, Waterford, Detroit. All the same...

Retired Army, currently employed with an automotive type job. Have a business me and the Missus run out of our shop built onto the garage.

Hello from central Texas - we live deep rural near Rosebud (great name, isn't it?). Nearest place name most might recognize is Waco, about 40 miles north of here. We live on the back 40 of my family's old home place. I came here 26 years ago as an escapee from Houston. In the meantime, I've built my place (3 places really, for us, then my mom, then my mom-in-law). With shops and outbuildings we're up to something north of 4K sq ft under roof, including the latest addition, my shiny new workshop where the Shark Pro Plus I just ordered will live. I'm looking forward to getting the machine and hoping this forum will be a good place to share experiences and bounce ideas around with other users.

Good morning all
My name is Mark Therrian I live here in Michigan just outside Lansing in a small village calledEagle.I've had my shark pro for about two years now and still learning.Ilike the looks of that new to. Is it possible to retrofit it to a older mode machine. I have a small cabinet business on the side so it opens alot of different avenues for me. Hope to have retirement business when I retire. Grew up in the construction trade building houses and apartment buildings. I now work for Michigan State University inthe cabinet shop Sill have a few years to go before I can retire.

My name is Mark Emerson, I'm currently stationed in San Diego, California but originally from Pueblo, Colorado where I plan to retire in 17 months. I just did ( 2 days ago) finish setting up my CNC Shark Pro in the garage and have cut a couple of the samples using VCarve Pro 6 and one sample from PhotoVCarve and will soon try my hand at the CUT3D program. That is one smooth running machine. I'm sure I have a lot to learn and looking forward to every bit of knowledge I can gather from reading the forums (I've spent the last two evenings doing nothing but).

Woodworking is strictly a hobby for me, started out with small project around the apartment, shelves, a box here and there. I'm sure most of you know what I'm talking about. Well, I've spent 20 years of my now 28 year Naval Career on ships. Now with my last three years in the Navy I'm working at Naval Criminal Investigative Services (NCIS). It's considered shore duty and therefore I have a lot of time with the family that I've never experienced before. So my wife who loves to say (I have an idea) meaning she's about to put me to work making something for her, worked out pretty good for me, as for everything I made it required a new tool (imagine that). I started searching for new ideas and came across a pen turner and have been turning pens ever sense. Recently I've made a few pieces of furniture, several shadow boxes and now I'm expanding my adventurous hobby through the CNC Shark Pro. Pen turning is pretty much a hobby that has paid for itself and now with the CNC Shark I'm looking forward to a lot of practice runs before putting it to high end use.
With a piece of wood and an idea, I can get into a lot of trouble
