CNC Shark Forum

A friend of mine asked if I could carve a design in his gunstock with my CNC Shark pro. I only do signs using V Carve Pro. What would I need (software & other hardware) if it is possible to do carving on gunstocks?

It would depend on what you wanted to carve. Assuming its more than initials, you would be able to do this following the steps I used to make this: http://www.cncsharktalk.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1911

Create a 3D model of the gun stock, or scan it into Aspire. Apply your carving to the model, unload the gun, put the safety on and start carving.

At IWF NextWaveAutomation was showing a 4th axis lathe option for the Shark. I've seen gun stocks cut several at a time on industrial multi-head CNC lathes, and know that you could cut one fairly easily using that rig with your Shark. I have no idea when or if it will be available though. Cutting one without a 4th axis option could be done with Cut3D and a strategy for flipping the part over half way through, or cutting it in mirror halves that are glued together after.
