Hi all

If you don't live near Cincinnati please bare with me. I drive from Kettering, Ohio 32 miles away.

We have a CNC User's Group that meets at the Cincinnati Rockler on the 3rd Saturday of every month.
Next meeting is Nov 18, 2017, 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM or they throw us out.

We have a show and tell session, Successes and failures. I learn more from failures than I do from successes.
We try to have a demo of a "new" feature or a feature we just discovered and has been there for years.
Open Help session you bring questions we usually have answers. Sometimes our answers are even right!!!

Very informal, I always learn something from every meeting.
Hope to see you there!

John

Congratulations on announcing (starting?) your group! Hopefully all the Ohioans around your area will heed the call and show up :D. And yeah, even some of those rascally Kentuckians too (I lived near Louisville for 7 years as a kid).

When I was closer to the Tukwila, WA Rockler store, I was in their PNWCNC (Pacific Northwest...) club and it was a lot of fun also. We keep it pretty local, but if you request to join our PNWCNC facebook page, I'll let you in for a look around at what we were able to do. Not a lot, but maybe some idea-sharing would benefit both groups.

It's a wonderfully complex and involved set of tools for making artful work pieces, without having to spend years and hundreds of trees-worth learning an ancient craft from an old weathered fellow who looks suspiciously like that WheelWright guy from PBS.

If there's anything we can do to help your club from our end, please let us know.

Regards,

Thom

Thanks for your offer of help.

We have actually been meeting for several years now.

Always need new members, bigger is better.

Be careful what you wish for: you could have to rent out some Televangelical building for your meetings, like the place with that huge white Jesus coming out of the lake. No, wait, that's closer to Columbus, IIRC ;-).

One good way for a while will be for you to add a note from your meetings, or other things, every couple weeks for a few months, to this post/thread. That way your post will stay near the top. Many only show up here if there's an issue, so it can sometimes be months before they'll be back around. Finding a local group who can help is sometimes a lifesaver on issues that drive us to support forums.

And of course, if the group posts their projects, or even links to them, in those forums, they'll be more-persistently seen by those just out cruising for project ideas.

Cheers!

Thom

Good idea, I've just been sending them out to our e-mail list. This is what you missed by not coming.

Ah yes, the good-old email list. :) In our crowd, fully half not only didn't use Facebook, but outright refused to :D. They'd accept email, but if there was a link, they wouldn't click it, worrying it had viruses...It's a constant battle dragging some folks into even this century. One thing I'll turn you on to on our page is my cut catalog(s), where I have shark-compatible feeds-and-speeds for a wide variety of situations and normal bit sizes, in Aluminum and Acrylic. (Earlier versions have been posted here as well) We always get a LOT of questions about how fast things should move to get the desired results, and that's been a great help. If someone has a large-format printer and can hand out full-sized prints, be prepared to give out as many as you bring, because just the amount of information is fascinating to read. Using those as a starting point really helps with early easy successes. Trust me, when I transitioned to aluminum from wood/acrylic, it was a steep learning curve, and getting shark-compatible F&S was 90% of the battle. Work holding was the second 90%, surface finish was the third 90%, dimensional accuracy was....you get the idea; it goes on and on :D

Regards,

Thom
