New Router mount for Z Axis

Post by gmagge »

Greetings all, I found an interesting item for sale on eBay and ordered since the seller told me he makes them for the CNC Shark HD4. I ordered one for $89 and will report back how it works out. I’ve changed a clamp to a Dixiebillet aluminum one with good success so taking the next step. Check it out here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Designed-to-ord ... 2749.l2649

Brushed aluminum? This is beautiful! I've also had my eye on a Dixiebillet, but I'm waiting for my current mount to break first.

I'm very interested to hear how it works for you.

Hello everyone, just wanted to let you know that I received the mount and it went on perfectly. I removed the original mount/cradle, which was the hardest part, and put on the replacement. I did have to use new screws since the originals were too long. I did some test runs and no flex from the brush getting pushed down or when cutting into hardwood. Still used my Dixiebillet clamp between the two router clamps and it gave it a bit more strength.

If I have anything else to report, I'll post it here.

Gmagge,

Would you post a picture or two of your new mount set up? I would be very interested.

Well, here are some pics of new mount. I slipped my Dixiebillet clamp in the middle of the new mount for extra strength (didn’t need it, but I figured it couldn’t hurt). Has allowed me to use higher speed when making cuts and is very rigid.

Thanks for the pictures, just ordered my new router mount today. I too will slip my Dixiebillet clamp into the new mount. I just upgraded my CNC Shark HD Plus that cut 25 X 25 X 7 to the HD 4 Extended, I'm just getting it all put together since I received it. Did 2 test cuts showing that I need to put shims behind the new router mount.

Thanks,

gmagge,

Please, for clarification, does your Dixiebillet clamp actually clamp or is it bolted to the new Z axis router mount?

Also, on my shark, I had to shim my Dixiebillet clamp just a little to get the router perpendicular to the table top because there was not adjustment in the Shark. Does the new Z axis router mount allow for any slight adjustments?
