depth of cut

Post by misterx »

Hi, I have a shark HD2 extended bed with a Bosch 1617 EVS router (2.25 HP) and want to do a 3d roughing cut with a .5" end mill. I was wondering what depth of cut I can use, I've never used a .5" end mill yet and wanted to know what you other people are using for depth of cut for that bit. I'm doing the cut in soft maple and just don't know how deep of a cut I should do. Thanks Tim

I would do 1/4" cuts per layer, but that probably pretty conservative compared to what most people would use for pine.
