SD110 gantry extensions

I'd like to work on a thick block of wood (about 4"), but the Z movement is only about 3". I need to cut into the material only about 2.5" so the Z movement would be sufficient but I need to offset it upwards by about 3". I need and extension to the existing gantry or a new, taller gantry or a Vcarve (or dxf, etc) so I can make my own gantry. Any suggestions?
