v carving some melamine with oramask and the bit keeps scratching the oramask during rapid movements between letters. i have reset z-0 several times with the touchplate, changed material thickness. i need some input from some more experienced users. I'm using a hd 510 machine. 3/8, 90 degree v bit.
almost seems like the touch plate is out of calibration if thats possible.
thanks john

Re: oramask keeps scratching?
John,
Two questions first.
1. Did you check your safe Z?
2. Are you using the laser post processor?...(which you shouldn't be.)

Re: oramask keeps scratching?
Bob,
thanks for the reply. post processor is good. i checked the safe Z and actually moved it up a a hair, but it still scratched. probably not enough after looking at some safe z info.
why would safe z be the issue if it was left alone during setup (default)? ive never had a problem with this before when leaving the safe z at the default setting.
i suppose some minor discrepancies in material thickness when measuring with calipers could muddy up the waters as well.
I'll try moving the safe z up further, and report back
thanks,
John

Re: oramask keeps scratching?
John,
Instead of using the touch plate, you could try carefully touching off on a piece of paper. Also are all couplers on the stepper motors secure. In particular the one for the Z?
The touch plate may need to be calibrated.
What is your safe Z set at?

Re: oramask keeps scratching?
tried the paper (same result)
safe z ( .001) is this correct for the default?
i was wondering about something being loose.
thanks

Re: oramask keeps scratching?
John
.001 is a mighty low safe Z.
I generally use .25. Sometimes higher depending upon where clamps are located on the table.
Would you send a screen shot of your settings?
