Is there an EASY way to get underneath the machine to clean the Y axis area without removing the gantry or lifting this heavy machine?
I have seen plenty of videos cleaning and lubing the X and z, but nothing showing how to get to the undercarriage.
(sure I will see some people cleaning the underside with the sides already taken off. But in order for me to do that, I think i have to remove the gantry.
Thanks
K

After struggling with the same problem for a while I finally came up with the perfect solution. They are called Arm Jacks. You can purchase inexpensive ones on Amazon or get better ones from Irwin, DeWalt, or Stanley (the latter 3 are actually all the same company, each with slight cosmetic differences). To use them you loosen the metal side plate that the gantry slides through. Slide the plate towards the front of the machine to access the back side of the machine. You then place the Jacks at the 4 corners of the machine. Squeeze the handles and the machine is safely raised plenty high enough to service the Y Axis components. The more expensive Jacks have a trigger that allows you to lower the machine very slowly and gently while the lowering mechanism on the cheaper ones are not as smooth. I started out with the cheaper ones that I purchased off of Amazon but just recently went with the Irwin ones ($99 apiece). I have the HD510 and only need 3 Jack, one in the center of the front and 2 in the back. The machine is quite stable when jacked up. I find the better Jacks are much easier to pump and lift the machine.
After thinking about it for a while I decided to post a video to my YouTube Channel "Dave's Woodshop" in hopes that it might help other HD5xx owners. Herte is the link:

I removed mine 3 years ago. If I remember right I used a dremel and cut through the thin metal and removed the metal cover. No real reason for it to be there.
