Mentor!, lol. 92 downloads in a day. Guess there's some interest in this technique.

And, at this moment, there are 92 Sharks carving bowl edges all over the world! The revolution begins...

So Bill, what's next? Automatic tool changing?
I'm starting to think that anything is possible.

The magic that I appreciate most about your posts, BillK, is that most people don't realize that the router mount itself can be modified and adapted for other applications (including the upcoming 4th axis). Using the Shark itself one can cut out new mounts for different routers or spindles or knives or pens or whatever. If I thought I could rig up a water pan under the gantry I'd be making a clamp to hold a plasma torch. I may take a stab at mounting an actual drill motor just for those jobs I want to drill a few thousand holes in. The current vacuum accessory is only effective with some short bits, but with the right clamp adaptor the vacuum hose itself could be mounted so that it would suck the table clean by running a 24" pocket toolpath with a 2.5" "bit "over the table.

Excellent job. Thanks!

That is one of the things I like about the Shark's design. It is open for us to make mods. Kind of like open source software.

Thanks for all the feedback, it's really great.

I've been around machines my whole life, my Dad had a LeBlonde Metal lathe in the garage where I grew up that he bought used for $75 from the local school along with a small drill press and tons of hand tool and they have always fascinated me. Probably why I became a Mechanical Engineer.

These ideas roll around in my head for weeks and months sometimes before I finally get them out. Having the shark has really allowed that to happen for me. It has paid for itself twice over in actual receipts, and tons more in terms of allowing the creativity flow. Reading this forum is the germ for a lot of those ideas.

Joe, Bob, thank you for your kind words, I'm humbled!

Bob, I'd have to say that your super simple 4th axis was part of the inspiration for this idea, so thank you again.

If I only knew there would be 500+ downloads of the PDF file I would have done a neater job!
