First time working with 2D vector files

Post by NewAgent45 »

This is the first time attempting to working with 2D vector files (EPS files) that were not created for CNC. I Have some 1/8” thick birch plywood on hand and decided to try my first experiment using the plywood. I may also try carving the image in 1/8” Acrylic without the cutout tool path. The Acrylic could be edge lit.

The first image shows the process and tools used. The second image is a picture of the finished carve. I mounted a desert sky photograph behind the cutout to give a unique effect.

This is work in progress and I would hear your comments and hear about your experiences with this type of work. I used a 60 deg. V-bit for the engraving step carving to 0.025" depth. I wonder if I might do better with a 0.125, 0.0625 or 0.03125 round nose bit. Of course the smaller the bit would take a long time to carve.

Hope you enjoy the subject!

Have a great day!
…. Rod
