So I decided to turn the Winter Tree into a box top. Here I made a box out of spalted maple fiirewood. Hand cut dovetails. The hinges are carved from walnut.

Very nice Bill. I like how you placed it in the branch.

No Jokes intended, just never really thought of carving a tree into a board, foam, corian, etc... or into anything for that matter!

Interesting how things change when you have not visited the thread in a while. Nice job on taking the tree to another level by adding it to something.

Creativity abounds!!! :)

Lightning, not lighting. The branches by themselves seem similar enough in form that they might work for lightning without too much fiddling. Maybe a few clouds on top to go along with it and you've got a great plaque for a weather station or thermometer/barometer.
You suggested changing the design to "lightning" instead of "lighting," and adding clouds to create a weather station or thermometer/barometer plaque using the similar branch forms.
For dreams and attitude 8-)
