Cannot "Continue" from Shark Pendant

The cable for the pendant for my Shark HD-4 was worn and I replaced it. Afterward, the system powered up, the pendant displayed the Shark logo, but I could not “Continue”. Eventually, the screen went dark.

1) Tried using the old cable – no change
2) Followed Shark instructions for Touch Screen Calibration – was successful but could not “Continue”.
3) Followed Shark instructions for LCD Pendant Maintenance and then Touch Screen Calibration to no effect; I could not “Continue”.
4) Switched pendant for an SD/HD pendant from my son’s machine and had the same symptoms.

Suggestions?
