Thinking inside thebox
I've done this project before using forstener bits. This is my attempt using cnc to make the turner's cube:
I set the tolerances a little tight for wood, which is the reason for breakout in the first attempt.
The second attempt was with composite lumber, and worked much better:

Hi bob,
How do you calculate the depth of cut?

Good job Bob. It's in the box. I was thinking about making one from corian, to sit on the wife's new kitchen counter tops. Hoping it will match the new floor.

I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.

You could try exercising your math ability...or do what I did and google turner's cube. The plan for a four inch cube was posted. I just cut the dimensions in half for my 2 inch cube. I didn't want to re-invent the wheel.zac wrote:Hi bob,

Corian sounds like a good material to try. I would like to see how it turns out for you.Buc wrote:Good job Bob. It's in the box. I was thinking about making one from corian, to sit on the wife's new kitchen counter tops. Hoping it will match the new floor.

Here's the file I used.zac wrote:Hi bob,

Try it as an air cut first.
The usual disclamer- Don't blame be if something doesn't turn out right. Use your own good judgement with this project.

Thanks Bob, that`s enough to get me started.

I had a file that I made that has a little wider edges. I cut my block weeks ago in red oak and today I finally cut my box. Came out great with just the roughing bit. I plan to do the finsh toolpath tomorrow. My cube measure 3.25" square.
