3HP Spindle Question

Post by nozborne »

I am running the HD510 with the 3HP spindle. When I power up, the spindle (obviously) and the pump are not running. I start a job, it processes normally with pump and spindle with speed changes. When the job completes, the spindle stops but the water pump keeps running. I left it on to see if it was maybe temp related, but it seems to just run. Shouldn't it turn off the pump and VFD as well? Just trying to make sure I have it all set up correctly.

the water pump will stay on as it isn't a 'controller controlled' unit, it is an ON/OFF thing controlled by the switched A/C outlet on the machine controller. just the spindle will turn off whena program is done, the spindle controller stays on as well, just the spindle itself turns off at the end of a program.

It's a good thing the pump keeps running as it helps cool the spindle down after a run. My spindle ran really hot when I first got the machine, I eventually discovered the plastic protective sheet on the water block heat transfer surface was still there. Nextwave said it's allowed to get to 160 or so but I was not happy with it's being almost to hot to touch.
