X and y axis

I read some were there were hot keys to change setting in the software anyone know them? Two on most of our machines the x axis is the short one but on most of the projects I do the x axis is the long one anyway to change this in software. Now I have tried designing a project one way the rotating it but thatcaused some problems. Haven't tried just changing the x and y cables because I don't know if that will cause any problems. I do think I reader somewhere their is a hot keys to do that .
