Bad X-axis spring collet

Post by shooter1940 »

Been waiting like forever for the table to come in for my new HD4 (the original was damaged)! So today it came in and got it all setup and tried to run a project and lo and behold the screw rod ran fine on the x-axis, but the spindle wasn't moving. I looked in on the screw with a flash light and saw the black thing on each end of the spring, one was broke. There is no parts list in the manual, so hope I can get next wave or Rockler can send me some new ones!

Anyone ever had that happen? If so could you get a replacement?

Broken? Are you sure? They are split because they're held against the leadscrew by spring tension. Are we talking about the anti-backlash nut, or the coupling between the stepper motor and the leadscrew?

Pictures...worth a 1000 words, and 2.75 days of debugging.

They got back to me VERY promptly when I contacted them....a month ago....LOL. No, just kidding. I've always had reasonable response times from them. I'm sure the recent issues with the HD4s have been keeping them VERY busy. Plus, having done customer support helping unhappy engineers before, I tend to cut them a good amount of slack. We techies can be SUCH whiners! :D.

However, yeah, broken parts falling out, I'll give you that one :D.

Yeah, they are call "T-nuts"....got in touch with Rockler and they are contacting next wave to get them to me as quick as possible. Looks like they need to make them out of something other than plastic! The tech at Rockler talked me through the replacement procedure and it's ready for the new part!
